The Adoption of the International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036): A Historic Initiative
Peace is the greatest blessing and the cornerstone of a secure and prosperous life for humanity. Every nation that enjoys peace and stability is able to pursue the path of development, prosperity, and well-being. Peace is not merely the absence of war; it is also respect for human dignity, mutual understanding, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. When peace and friendship prevail in society, people live and work with confidence, children grow up and receive education in a safe environment, and the state advances steadily toward sustainable development and progress.
Friendship is one of humanity's highest values. Nations that embrace friendship and mutual understanding as their guiding principles never allow conflict or division to take root. As the wise have said: "Friendship is a treasure that cannot be compared with any wealth."
Since ancient times, the Tajik people have been renowned for their culture of peace, hospitality, and humanism. Our ancestors consistently called upon people to uphold unity, love, and mutual respect. Saadi Shirazi, in his immortal verses, addressed all humanity:
Human beings are members of one body,
Created from the same essence.
These timeless words remind us that all people, regardless of nationality, language, or religion, belong to one human family and should live together in friendship, mutual understanding, and harmony.
The great thinker Mawlana Jalal al-Din Balkhi (Rumi) also emphasized the power of love and friendship:
Love turns bitterness into sweetness;
Love transforms copper into gold.
In other words, genuine love and compassion have the power to overcome even the greatest difficulties and disagreements, bringing hearts closer together and strengthening mutual trust.
At a time when the world faces armed conflicts, terrorism, extremism, climate change, and many other global challenges, strengthening peace and international security has become one of the foremost priorities of the international community. The Republic of Tajikistan, as a peace-loving nation and an active initiator of international initiatives, has consistently advocated resolving global issues through dialogue, mutual understanding, and constructive cooperation.
At the initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, a proposal was submitted to the United Nations to proclaim the International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036). The purpose of this initiative is to unite the efforts of the international community in promoting a culture of peace, strengthening trust among nations, preventing conflicts, and creating a peaceful and secure world for present and future generations.
According to the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, the Decade is aimed at promoting the culture of peace, strengthening dialogue and reconciliation, fostering intergenerational cooperation, and encouraging greater participation of young people in decision-making processes.
This initiative represents a logical continuation of Tajikistan's peace-oriented policy. Today, the country's unique experience in restoring peace and achieving national reconciliation is recognized internationally as a valuable model of successful conflict resolution. The Tajik peace process has demonstrated that even the most complex conflicts can be resolved through political will, constructive dialogue, and mutual forgiveness.
The International Decade for Strengthening Peace creates new opportunities for governments, international organizations, academic and cultural institutions, and civil society to expand cooperation in educating young people in the spirit of peace, tolerance, and respect for universal human values.
For the people of Tajikistan, this international initiative is a source of great national pride. It once again confirms our country's high standing as a peace-loving nation and a responsible initiator of important global initiatives. Furthermore, it strengthens Tajikistan's international reputation and enhances its contribution to addressing the pressing challenges facing the world today.
Today, every citizen of Tajikistan has a responsibility to preserve peace and national unity as sacred values, because only in an atmosphere of peace and stability can the country achieve sustainable development, national prosperity, and a dignified life for its people.
The beloved Tajik poet and Hero of Tajikistan, Mirzo Tursunzoda, wrote:
I sing of peace in the melody of peace,
So that the whole world may be filled with the voice of peace.
Thus, the International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036) is not merely another international initiative; it is a message of hope for all humanity. It calls upon the global community to unite, strengthen mutual understanding, and share collective responsibility for ensuring a peaceful future for humankind.
In conclusion, peace, friendship, national unity, and mutual understanding are sacred values that guide humanity toward peaceful coexistence, social progress, and national prosperity. We must cherish these invaluable blessings as the apple of our eye and pass them on to future generations as a priceless legacy.
Finally, we express our profound pride in and wholehearted support for this historic initiative of the Leader of the Nation, declaring:
The peace we have signed makes nations victorious,
And destroys the plans of those who seek war.
Peace is humanity's greatest achievement—far more valuable than any material wealth. No prosperity or success can equal even a single moment of peaceful life, friendship, stability, and harmony. Peace is a priceless blessing that elevates nations, strengthens statehood, and enhances the prestige of a country in the international arena.
"Peace is like spring—it brings renewal, joy, and prosperity." This famous poetic line symbolizes creation, tranquility, and flourishing. In the culture of the Tajik people, peace has always been regarded as the source of a prosperous life, sustainable development, and national unity.
We, the people of Tajikistan, must never forget that peace and mutual understanding form the foundation of a strong family, a healthy society, and a bright future, leading our nation toward continued development and prosperity.
